The famous villages on Greek island of Santorini are Fira, Oia, Kamari, Akrotiri and Perissa. All these popular villages are discussed bellow:
Fira, Santorini
The village of fira is situated at 10 kilometers away from the main port Athinaios. Fira is the capital of Santorini officially called as Thira and regarded as one of the most popular villages of Santorini. It is located at the west side of the island with 2000 constant inhabitants.
The Cycladic village Fira is made of beautiful white houses with blue color doors and windows separated by narrow streets. The town of Fira is very touristy during summer and in its high season. The main streets of Fira become very crowded with all kind and range of shops including jewellery shops, cafes, restaurants, nightclubs and bars. The visitors can find comfortable staying, delicious food and lots of fun in Fira.
The visitors can enjoy the cable car and mule riding in fira. During summer season the cable car service starts from early morning to late evening.
Oia Village Santorini
The village of Oia is pronounced as Ia located at 10 kilometers far from Fira. This village is popular for it’s calm life and amazing sunsets with a fame of most picturesque village of Santorini with 500 constant inhabitants. Maritime museum in Oia gives a clear indication of rich culture.
Every year thousands of artists come to this village and stay here forever due to it’s quite life and romantic sunsets. This is the reason why Oia consist a large number of art galleries. The village of Oia was very prosperous during 19th century with 9000 constant populations, but it was destroyed completely in 1956 due to a severe earthquake. Tourists can find tasty meals of delicious fish in Taverns of Oia.
Kamari Village, Santorini
Kamari is a beach resort and a tourist spot located at south east side of Santorini Island, Greece. Village of Kamari is much crowded with huge range of hotels, restaurants, café bars and nightclubs.
The beach of kamari is one of the most popular beaches in Santorini extended with black sandy beach and crystal clear blue water, which is well organized with all kind of facilities including sun umbrellas, chairs and various types of sea sports.
During the month of August the local festival "Kamariano Panighyri" takes place and on 24th September the festival Panaghia Myrtidiotissa also takes place, where the participants are offered music, dance, food and wine.
Kamari is well access by public busses. In summer season there are frequent bus service in every 15 minutes. Rent car facilities and car rental agencies are also available if you are looking for a luxury and custom travel.
Akrotiri village – The buried city of Santorini
Akrotiri village is located at a distance of 12 kilometers from Fira next to red beach. This is one of the most famous archaeological sites on the Greek island Santorini. Around 1500 BC there was an awful volcano eruption, which destroyed the city completely and the city buried under the volcanic ashes. Due to this volcano eruption, the Minoan settlement got destroyed.
Most of the findings of athis buried city can be found in National Archaeological Museum in Athens and the new Archaeological Museum of Fira.
The village of Akrotiri is well connected to fira. During summer the visitors can find buss service frequently. For comfortable sightseeing the visitors can use rent a car service from various car rental agencies available on the Greek island of Santorini.
Village of Perissa, Santorini
Perissa is one of the popular beach resorts on the Greek Island of Santorini due to it’s long sandy beach. Basically this is a tourist town becomes very busy during the summer time. This village is designed with a purpose to welcome the tourists coming from all end of the world.
Perissa is located in south east of Fira at a distance of 15 Kilometers. This village is very touristy and crowded during up season. It offers diversities of luxury hotels, Taverns, Bars, nightclubs, rooms and restaurants for visitors.
Perissa is well connected by public bus. However during summer season one can find frequent public buss service in every half an hour.
Monolithos, Santorini Island
Monolithos is a small village with 450 constant in habitants with golden sandy beach. This village is situated at a distance of 9 kilometers from Fira and less crowded in comparison to kamari and Perissa.
This place is well access by public busses, rented cars, and private cars or by walking.
